Top 10 Weekly Geek News- Hillary Clinton: The Face of the Vanquished

Top 1- Hillary Clinton: The Face of the Vanquished

New York, Hillary Rodham ClintonShe arrived at the East Front of the Capitol at not quite 20 minutes past 10 a.m. in a pantsuit of the softest cream, smiling gamely and waving to onlookers. She ignored a reporter’s shouted question about how it felt to be there, but off camera, some among the panelists and anchors on CNN could be heard chuckling at the excruciating obviousness of the query.

And just a half hour later, Hillary Rodham Clinton appeared at the top of the passageway leading to the inaugural platform, a mute witness to a moment of history she had prayed would never happen. As she and her husband made their way through the VIP crowd to their seats, still smiling, someone called out, “We’re here for you!”

If it was Clinton’s unhappy task to sit just behind and to the left of Donald Trump as he took the oath of office as the 45th president, she bore it with her usual stoicism and cast-iron discipline, despite a smattering of boos when her name was announced. “I am here today to honor our democracy and its enduring values,” her Twitter account declared. “I will never stop believing in our country & its future.”

Top 2- Donald Trump: Ushering the end of the American Century

160118134132-donald-trump-nigel-parry-large-169If America’s allies needed one more reminder of the threat Washington’s new boss poses to the international order that previous American leaders built, President Donald Trump just gave it to them. Nearly every word of his inaugural address aggressively underlined his campaign’s central message: Screw you, world. America First.

In Mr. Trump’s telling, the United States is not the leader of the postwar international order. Instead, it is its chief victim. The idea resonated powerfully with a large number of American voters. That’s why his first act as President was to restate it. That’s why he is going to pursue America First over the next four years. Mr. Trump has understood something profound about his supporters and their fears, and his promise to benefit America by sticking it to everyone else is not just a rhetorical device.

“We assembled here today are issuing a new decree to be heard in every city, in every foreign capital, and in every hall of power. From this day forward, a new vision will govern our land. From this day forward, it’s going to be only America first, America first.

Top 3- Olivia Pope: Hail to the Thief

Scandal (ABC) Season 1, 2012

Shown: Kerry Washington“Survival of the Fittest” had to do more than act as a refresher for those who, understandably, might have forgotten the finer details of Scandal’s fifth season, which now feels like a distant, sepia-toned memory. The season premiere had to reset the entire chessboard, not to mention lay down the ground rules for a narrative world that now bears even less resemblance to real-life politics.

Let’s not forget, Scandal already told the story of Hollis Doyle, the counterfeit Donald Trump whose presidential bid was undone last season when he admitted to manipulating his supporters’ worst impulses. President Trump himself has admitted that his campaign-trail threats to jail his opponent were just chunks of red meat thrown to the werewolves of London, Ohio, so it’s painfully clear that Scandal may not even be able to stick to the basics of the real political climate.

Top 4- The Scientists: Copying Data on Climate Change amid White House Purge

entrepreneurship-for-scientistsThe moment Donald Trump took office on Friday, the official White House website was purged of all references to global warming and climate change science.

In its place is an energy plan to increase development of fossil fuels, get rid of regulations, open up public lands and parks to drilling and mining, free us from dependence on foreign oil and lower the cost of energy.

This is weird: Energy in America is the cheapest it’s ever been in our history, and it’s unlikely to get much cheaper without hurting our own oil and gas companies. There is a price below which you can’t make money.

The United States is producing more oil and gas than ever before, and we are not really dependent on foreign oil anymore. We import less oil than at anytime since 1970, and most of what we import is from Canada, not Saudi Arabia.

Top 5- Kate Pearson: Magic, Madonna, and Inigo Montoya

mv5bntiwnzk4otm2mv5bml5banbnxkftztgwnzm1nje3nze-_v1_uy317_cr950214317_al_It’s business as usual on This Is Us. Which means after the divisive all-flashback episode (I stand by my love for it), we’re back to multiple timelines. It also means there are story lines that will make you laugh and others that will make you cry. You guys, they will make you cry so much. I’m not just talking about Little Randall telling Rebecca about the book of mazes he’s making with his friend Andrew. But I am talking about that a little bit. A BOOK OF MAZES, YOU GUYS. That little kid is the sweetest.

Of course, the main culprits of the weepiness in “Three Sentences” are some quick glimpses of a funeral — yes, that funeral — and a very emotional POUND fitness class. I promise it’s not as weird as it sounds.

Top 6- Vincent Janssen: Written off by Spurs fans when he can’t even get in weakened XI against Wycombe

gallery_vj_730eVincent Janssen received another blow to his unspectacular Tottenham career on Saturday as he was omitted from the starting line-up at home to lowly Wycombe Wanderers in the FA Cup.

Janssen came on as a second-half substitute and netted a penalty as his side came from behind against the League Two outfit, but the vote-of-no-confidence before kick-off still had Spurs supporters ruminating on his future with the club.

The forward arrived at White Hart Lane from AZ Alkmaar in the summer for £17million, having been top scorer in the Dutch Eredivisie last season with 27 goals, but has so far failed to fire in English football.

Top 7- Ed Sheeran: Still On Top, While The Chainsmokers Debut In The Top 10 In The U.K.

300x300Last week, Ed Sheeran made history in the U.K. by debuting his two new singles “Shape Of You” and “Castle On The Hill” at Nos. 1 and 2, respectively. He was the first person to ever manage such an impressive charting feat, and this time around, both of those songs remain where they are, and where they may stay for a number of frames.

Also steady in third place is Rag’N’Bone Man’s “Human,” the breakout hit from the U.K.-based artist, who has already won a BRIT Award, in part because of the beauty and honesty of his biggest song to date.

Up to No. 4 this week is “You Don’t Know Me,” the latest from dance producer Jax Jones. The song just broke into the top 10 for the first time last week, and it appears to be on track to continue climbing, though it will have a difficult time cutting through Sheeran’s massive new singles if it wants to ascend all the way to the top. The song is the second top 10 for Jones, and the first for featured vocalist Raye.

Top 8- Wesley Sneijder: the latest top European name wanted by a Chinese Super League club.

VOETBAL-PERSCONFERENTIE-NEDERLANDS ELFTALSneijder has been at Galatasaray since leaving Inter Milan in 2013, and his contract runs out at the end of next season.

Should he move to Beijing, he would link up with a former team-mate from the Turkish giants in Burak Yilmaz.

While an offer to move to the Chinese Super League may be tempting financially, it remains unclear as to whether Sneidjer would be keen.

He has recently seen Oscar join Shanghai SIPG in a deal worth £60million — before Carlos Tevez moved to city rivals Shanghai Shenhua, to become the world’s highest-paid footballer.

However, Sneijder has been excellent at Galatasaray.

Top 9- Kellan Lutz: New brand ambassador for Geoffrey Beene

rs_560x415-131122144029-1024-kellan-lutz-hercules-the-legend-jl-112213_copyGeoffrey Beene has tapped an action hero to serve as the new face of its advertising campaign. No, it’s not Batman or Superman — it’s “Twilight” actor Kellan Lutz.

Lutz has been brought on board as the brand’s ambassador and is being featured in “A Man on a Mission” print, outdoor and online campaign that will break next month. The ads, and accompanying video, are intended to raise awareness of Geoffrey Beene’s corporate structure that donates 100 percent of the company’s net profits to cancer research at the Geoffrey Beene Cancer Research Center at Memorial Sloan Kettering.

Top 10- Lorenzo Richelmy: Marco Polo Vanquished

marco-polo-season-2-release-date-july-1-2016Marco Polo‘s voyages have ended: Netflix has cancelled the globe-spanning drama after two seasons.

The Hollywood Reporter first reported the cancellation, which makes Polo the first Netflix original series not to reach a third season. Lorenzo Richelmy starred as the legendary merchant who travelled from Italy to China and eventually served in the court of the Mongol ruler Kublai Khan (Benedict Wong).

Marco Polo debuted in 2014, and had a reported budget of $90 million for its first season, rivaling HBO’s Game of Thrones. But reviews were mixed, and a second season debuted this past summer to little fanfare. The combined budget for both seasons topped $200 million, according to THR, and the ultimate decision to axe the show was a mutual one between Netflix and producers The Weinstein Company.
